Leading the Dry-Colour Revolution: A Conversation with COLOURizd

·

GenuTrace

GenuTrace, the supply chain consultancy specialising in traceability, brand protection, and product authentication, sat down with Jennifer Thompson, CEO and co-founder of COLOURizd, for a wide-ranging conversation on dry colour application, verified impact claims, and what it actually takes to make sustainability pay for itself.

"For something to be truly sustainable, it must reach a point where it costs less," Thompson told GenuTrace — a theme she returns to often, and one this conversation puts to the test with real numbers rather than aspiration.

The interview traces COLOURizd's use of nanoparticle pigments to eliminate water from textile dyeing, and what Thompson calls the "Double Dividend Protocol": pairing environmental benefit with economic benefit so neither has to be sacrificed for the other. She points to wet processing — roughly 36% of a garment's environmental impact — as the industry's most under-addressed decarbonisation opportunity over the next five years.

Verification runs through the whole conversation, which is very much GenuTrace's territory: COLOURizd's partnerships with The Woolmark Company (validating performance on wool and wool blends) and with GenuTrace itself (verifying traceability and sustainability claims) both come up as examples of proof standing in for promises. "To achieve truly radical results, we need radical innovation — and open minds willing to drive those changes," Thompson says.

Her closing point is as much about product as it is about planet: "Build beautiful product that happens to be sustainable, and it will sell itself."
